The Carrick Emmets 29th Annual Christmas Day swim took place as always in Creevy Lake at 12.30pm on Christmas Day.  There were 137 swimmers counted on the day.

They braved the icy waters which were just 2 degrees, some felt they would be colder since the waters were sheltered with over 2 inches of ice.

Members of Monaghan Sub Aqua Club were present on the day to carry out their normal water safety, but they found themselves out with shovels, picks, lump hammers and any tool available to crack the hard ice on the lake.  Pat Butler, Frank McDermot, Lynda Rouiller, Gerry Donnelly and Emma Gollogly were all in the water giving it loads to break the ice so that swimmers could enter the water.

Funds raised from this year's swim is to purchase a High Frequency Chest  Oscillation Vest for Cystic Fibrosis sufferer Emma Keenan from Lisdoonan as well as raise funds for the local branch of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Members of MSAC were thanked by Paddy Gollogly for their attendance, after he welcomed his Mammy to her first ever Christmas swim!!!!
