Evening Hearlds Michael O'Doherty gets a taste of 'blayney Humble by in the Glencarn Hotel.

In an article in the Evening Hearld Journalist Mr Michael  O’Doherty referred to the people of the town who have broke two world records as “cretins” and suggested that Castleblayney was “the notorious Monaghan hole.”

The town was awarded a Guinness World Record for having 905 people dressed up as Flintstones in the one place at the one time as part of the Muckno Mania Festival.

Along with several representatives  from the Evening Hearld Mr Michael O'Doherty was taken on an extensive tour of Castleblayney, sites included the Glencarn Hotel, GR8 Entertainment, Concra Wood Golf Club, and a Tour of Lough Muckno.

Mr. O'Doherty was then interviewed on Northern Sound Radio where he said that they people of Castleblayney were very nice to him despite his article.  He said that he had only passed through Castleblayney on route to Derry many years ago.

Monaghan Sub Aqua Club members were delighted to Take Mr. O'Doherty and his colleagues on a full tour of Lough Muckno.

On board were representatives from Castleblayney Town Council.  We were delighted to offer them a top class journey taking them in our large boat from the Pontoons on Gas Lake and under the bridge and into Lough Muckno.  This weekend is the first time this has ever been attempted with our large boat.  Well done Frank and Thomas for the brain-wave!!!

Sizzling Fun at the BBQ

Monaghan Sub Aqua Club annual BBQ was held on Friday the 16th of July.  What a sizzling success!!!

Members of MSAC arrived after work to prepare for the big BBQ.  Over 400 burgers, 300 Sausages were stored and ready for cooking.

I think we all learned a few tips from last year, but the most obvious one was Brian Morrow remembered smoke gets in your eyes!!! Not this year, Brian was sporting a fine pair of swimming goggles to keep the smoke out. Great idea!!!

Avril, Emma, Lynda and Stephen served all the crowds while, Gearoid, Keith, Michelle, Dermot, Pat, Carole, and Frank got our orders ready.
Brian and Thomas BBQ'd and Dermot also assisted there for a while.

The crack was just mighty, we managed to have plenty of laughs for the hours we were working hard.

Cillian and Oisin McCarthy were our runners for the night, along with Joe.  Red Sauce and Mustard were on the menu, and lots of it... Joe got plenty of walking done while shopping for red sauce!!

Thomas was determined that the Lakeview Hound was not getting the left overs we didn't sell, so he sold the remainder of the food using a rather loud speaker, think there were a few strange sound effects in there!!!  The crowds came running, well he did say everything €1!!!!!

The Festival Crew were more than delighted to avail of a nice cup of tea at the end of the night, and when the tea pot was out everyone wanted some...

The crowds stayed long after the fireworks ended, the tables outside were a great idea.  Much to my disappointment the Ice Cream was not such a great seller.. it was a bit on the cool side!!!

Can't wait until next year... We will be smelling BBQ for at least 6 months in the Club House! Kiss

17 Members of MSAC rolled up their sleves and got stuck into cleaning the MSAC Club House.  Ladies, NOTE Men know how to work a Hoover, well that is of course if your hoover is a large industrial manly type model.

Thanks to everyone who helped out.  There was a great atmosphere in the Club house.  Bring on the Festival this weekend!!! Cool
